Brand New Here.
Post by milfredo on Jun 30th, 2017, 06:49am

I have been programming in LB for quite a few years. I really like the language. I am not a brilliant coder, just an average hobbyist for the most part.

I ran across LBB some time ago, but thought I read where it was not being supported anymore. Now I find this site. So a couple of questions.

Where do I start here to see what is what? And am I improving my resources by being here?

These are honest questions on my part, and I hope to get some helpful input from anyone who would like to respond.

Thank you very much,
Milfredo

You already do LB, so LBB should basically work for you.
Read up LBB Help | Compatibility section.
Then something does not work, re-read it wink
(If things get not fixed, don't forget to ask here)
Browse help file, browse LB Booster technical Wiki
linked up there

Me thinks yes
1) Having checking your program in two different implementations could uncover subtle errors in your code
(my favourite one)
2) You can have benefits of LBB faster speed. Usually it IS faster, and sometimes it is essential.
3) You can miss some LB bugs (since LBB is different it has no reason to *have* LB bugs in the first place)
4) you can use some LBB extensions. They will make program incompatible with LB but sometimes it worths it / there are no way arond it.

Just don't ask LBB questions on LB forums. Folks get nervous there.

Sort of. When it became clear that the LB folks were not going to allow LBB to be discussed at their forum - we got very close but it was eventually vetoed by Carl - the potential user-base greatly diminished. As a result my motivation for continuing to develop LBB disappeared and since then only bug-fixes and very minor enhancements have taken place.

However although development has substantially ceased support will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Apart from anything else, LBB is used to compile some major applications such as Cabinet Planner and Show Secretaryİ for Windows - others can be found in the Showcase section of this forum - so it would be unreasonable to withdraw support from those users.

Richard.
