I don't recall having bother installing previous versions but this time round it was a bit difficult.
The problem was saving the downloaded file to the protected program files x86 folder.
Win8.x does not establish an admin account by default so most users will not have straight forwards access to this file area.
Perhaps folks know easier ways but this is what I had to do.
Press Windows Key+X Select Command Prompt (Admin) At the C:\windows\system32> cursor key net user administrator active:yes A new Admin account will be established, takes a while Go to Start and log in as Admin Start Explorer and establish the LBB directory Start IE, download the LBB.exe to the LBB directory Right Click and run as administrator the LBB.exe and all is well.
Not sure novices on Win8 will surmount this obstacle, but then there may be a much easier way. Re: Installing on Win8.x

Win8.x does not establish an admin account by default so most users will not have straight forwards access to this file area.
I have two PCs running Windows 8.1 (a Sony Vaio and a Dell XPS) and both were configured 'out of the box' with UAC enabled. In other words, the default user account created during the setup process was an admin account, requiring only the usual Run As Administrator right-click option to install LBB in a folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\.
So I don't think your experience is typical. I am not aware that Microsoft have made any changes to the way accounts are created by default between Windows 7 and Windows 8, so I wonder why you have ended up with a restricted non-admin account (unless through your own choice). As a programmer I would find a PC configured that way annoying.
The process I always follow to install a new copy of LBB, which has never failed for me, is: Download LBB.EXE to the Downloads folder or the Desktop as you prefer.
Cut-and-paste LBB.EXE to a suitable folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\ (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\LB Booster\). You will be prompted by UAC to provide admin privileges.
For the first time (only) run LBB by right-clicking on LBB.EXE and selecting Run As Administrator from the context menu.Of course you always have the option of installing LBB in an 'unprotected' location if you want to avoid this complication.
Richard.

My experience of installing on Windows 8.1 was pretty much the same as Richard's, not much different to installing on Windows 7.
