Some admin at the LB forum is still sensitive towards LBB, because they've taken it on themselves to edit out ANY remote reference to "Booster". That's really quite silly. I don't enjoy posting when I have to watch out for every single thing I might say.

The official line (unless it's been changed again) is that it's OK to mention LBB but not to promote it; some guidelines were provided to help make this tricky distinction. I don't know what has been edited out, but if you think it shouldn't have been perhaps Alyce (who monitors this forum from time to time) would care to tell us whether the rules have changed and if so what they are now. Incidentally I trust the edit has been acknowledged by the insertion of an Edited by moderator or similar comment.

One might (naively) think that it should be OK to post there anything which benefits LB users; after all it is supposed to be the LB 'Community' Forum, not the Carl Gundel Appreciation Society, but sadly that's not the way the administrators see it. I remain banned from the forum (by IP address, making it one of the rare situations when I actually suffer through being lucky enough to have a static IPv4 address).

I removed a post by pnl that was a blatant promotion for LBB. pnl should read the forum rules, which state:

I misunderstood the OP; I thought he was referring to a post being edited rather than deleted.

I suspect very few people go to the trouble of reading the rules before they post, if they are confident that what they are posting should not upset anybody. Indeed most forums I use (like this one) don't have any formal rules, other than those that might be imposed by the hosting company (in this case Conforums).

As you have not said otherwise, I will assume that it remains OK to mention LBB at the LB forum so long as it is not "blatantly promoted".

Silly me. I posted something like this in response to what the other poster before me posted. He said something about thinking LBB was "toast".

"That 'toast' got you out of a 'jam'." I don't see how that was promoting any product.

Anyway, I'm not upset or anything. I just thought it was a bit silly to monitor that tight and go to the extreme of just surreptitiously deleting my post with no warning.

Nothing else to do?

Did you not get a PM? I would have expected at the very least that you would be told why your post had been deleted (especially as it seems you didn't explicitly mention LBB at all).

I've never been deleted on any forum that I've ever been on for a decade, and no I didn't even get a reprimand. I just thought it funny to comment on the "toast" juxtaposed against the "jam". cheesy

However, I do post some frivolous comments at times. Just my nature to be jovial. Mostly its appreciated, but I suppose some folks are living in a darker world than I. It doesn't really make me want to post on that forum.

Yes, I did get the joke. I just hope it was up long enough for others to appreciate it too. Those poor users who are stuck with LB 4.5.0 (and the LB Pro 'elite' who are still forced to use LB Pro 4.04) need as much cheering up as they can get! laugh

Good luck, but if you try to argue that you didn't break the rules, don't be surprised if they are changed retrospectively! It's happened before, without any consultation or discussion with the members. angry

Actually, after reading "The Rules" at the LB Forum, I violated this rule in an earlier post:

This is terrible. I haven't been involved with programming Windows software since Windows 98SE and DOS. I start learning Windows with Liberty Basic and within a month I'm in trouble with the developer.

After this project, I think I'll go back to FileMaker. It is so much more sophisticated. I'm sure FileMaker hasn't been as static and patched as Liberty Basic has for a decade or more. The majority of "educational" material is dated back to 2005 to 2006 and before. It all still works! There's only a few posts a month on the main forum and those are mostly from newbies like myself that have stumbled in unaware of the situation.

How does a developer explain announcing a product a decade in advance and it still isn't available? At least 3 generations of programmers have been produced from schools around the globe and nary a one of them has any intention of purchasing said product no matter how well it is developed.

WTF are we thinking?! cheesy

To be fair, the 'developer' (i.e. Carl Gundel himself) has never caused me or LBB any trouble at all. He was kind enough to say, publicly, that "LBB is a legitimate artifact. Feel free to use it if it suits your needs". The person or people with whom you are "in trouble" have self-appointed roles.

That's fine, of course, but you also have the option of using LBB independently of LB, or you could take a look at BBC BASIC (which is what LBB uses, under the hood).

you know there is also JB out there too?
I quit using QB then forum I used (on Tek-Tips) dried out.
I converted to JB, use it since 2007.
So it is nice and free and comes no strings attached but the audience is small. Just compare number of views on new topic.
Eventually picked up LB and LBB, too.
You can of course restrict yourself to posting only here - but I would say LB forum still has more (much more?) members.
So if you want to get feedback - or just to wow people - use all forums your program compatible with.
